All businesses are required by North Carolina General Statute 105-308 to list business personal property. The listing must be filed by January 31 to avoid a late listing penalty. Extensions of time to list may be granted until April 15th. Requests can be made online or in writing to the Tax Administration during the January listing period
If you have previously listed your business personal property during the current year, the Tax Department will send you the next year's listing form in early January. If you have not previously listed your business personal property during the current year, please contact our office to request a listing form at 336-342-8295 or download the forms you need below. It is your responsibility to obtain a listing form from the Tax Office or download the forms you need.

The Department is holding a series of seminars focused on proactively informing small business owners of their State tax responsibilities. Past seminar participants have reported that they found the seminars to be very beneficial.
North Carolina General Statutes allow for certain types of property to be exempt from taxation if they meet the requirements specified by the statutes. Organizations claiming exemption from North Carolina Personal Property Tax must file an application for exemption by January 31.
You can appeal your personal property assessed value within 30 days of the date of your assessment notice or tax bill. N.C.G.S. 105-317.1
