The office of the Tax Administrator, consist of two divisions: assessment and collection. The assessment division is responsible for listing, appraising and assessing all real property, business personal property and individual personal property as well as the transfer and maintenance of property ownership. The collection division is responsible for the collection of all current and delinquent property taxes for Rockingham County, the City of Eden, City of Reidsville, Town of Madison, Town of Mayodan, Town of Stoneville and 20 rural fire districts. Rockingham County is comprised of approximately 54,215 real estate parcels, 3,000 businesses, over 99,000 registered motor vehicles and 4,350 personal property manufactured homes. In North Carolina all property tax laws are determined by the State Legislature. The Tax Assessor and Tax Collector is sworn to uphold and administer these laws uniformly and equitably. The tax rates applied to all County property assessments are determined by the Rockingham County Board of Commissioners, individual fire districts and the various city and town councils. These rates are established in June of each year in preparation of tax bills which are mailed in late July. We strive to provide equitable cost effective administration of the property tax in Rockingham County, complying with all legal directives in an atmosphere citizen clients can trust.
